The CA is now seriously being slated for revival. The Birendra CC has been rented for the purpose in New Banshwor. Hopefully the current PM will not relent and allow this to happen in the name of consensus. Say that it doesn’t and fresh elections are held. There is a good chance the status-quo main political parties will come up with the capital to bribe them all into submission again. Round and round we go. It is the devil of poverty and lack of morals that locks us into a cycle of corruption. As painful as it is to envision, the old-line families who dominate industries such as petrol in Nepal must be wiped out at the root – to the youngest son who may be studying abroad. A new breed of totally incorruptible super-patriots must be the replacement. These super-patriots must be fanatical in their devotion to an honest, prosperous Nepal that benefits the many.
Unfortunately a Chinese style “Cultural Revolution” will be needed before this kind of change can come. Nepali culture is passive and gentle and that is why we have come to the current impasse with the worst of us coming to the fore. These characteristics are also why it will be difficult to do what must be done. But it must be done. Those who doubt this have not come face-to-face with our demons.
I, for one, will not continue to squat on tattered carpet in the miserable heat, eating dhalbhat with soiled hand as my young son is bitten by malaria-ridden mosquitoes. I will raise my son to be a warrior in the revolution for a new Nepal. This Nepal will be free of nepotistic charlatans who cheat. It will be free of undue influence of giant neighbors. It will be free of multinational corporate interests. If it is not free my son and I will die trying.
