My dear Indian friend,
I wish you a happy new year 2016 ! May the coming days bring warmth, peace and prosperity to you and your near-dear ones! I hope you had a great year. Unfortunately it was a year to forget for me.

The second and more depressing event for us has been for the past few months (since September 23), I along with 28 million Nepalis have been enduring a life with little or no fuel which used to come through India but doesn’t come now. Since fuel is the primary means through which other basic necessities rely upon to be transported, we have been in a state of shock for months. To put things bluntly, I believe there is a ‘unofficial’ economic blockade on us going on, sadly ‘led’ by and puzzlingly “denied” by the Indian government.Things are getting much worse day by day. All successful nations tie their foreign policy closely with building their own prosperity by focusing on interdependence, multi-alliances and by responding (as opposed to reacting). The India it wants to become contradicts with the India it is showing (with respect to Nepal).

India wants to become one of the world’s most prosperous nations by 2050. That is why it has embarked upon an ambitious, vibrant “Act-East” policy to build its reputation and attract enough partnership and investments to meet this level of prosperity. It is working hard to keep a strong economy by pursuing with its Asian neighbors to the east, a vibrant 3 pillar relationship based on Commerce, Culture and Connectivity.

India has directed its best diplomats and resources towards this. It is helping build Asian super highways to connect India to Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand reaching all the way to Vietnam. It is working with its eastern neighbors to explore oil and other vital resources. It is assertive yet welcoming. It wants the world to realize that the world benefits from “Rising India”. It further wants to show the 21st century as “the Asian Century” through its aggressive “Act East” policy.
