We are inches from success in Nepal!

Wordle: closer to success in nepal
Each of us here in Nepal complain how we are headed for certain failure or doom or crash. I feel we are very close to success provided we make a strong stand for rule of law in this country. (re-read the previous sentence 2 more times to realize the importance of this)

Here are 4 opportunities I see that unlocks prosperity into Nepal, and how they can be turned into reality, and what is the main barrier. I hope you lead yourself to removing this main barrier, I call ‘absence of rule of law‘.

Opportunity 1: The Himalayas are the water reservoirs for more than 1.3 Billion (1,300,000,000) people on Earth. Even the next conflict will be on Water. We better harness our liquid gold fully. Water is the next gold.

Action taken till now:The Government is trying to attract the Foreign investors by begging its neighbors or other countries directly. And it is trying to make every-one inside Nepal happy and rich immediately while asking for direct foreign investment (which it mistakes as foreign aid).

What is Investment Board, Nepal ? CEO Radhesh Pant answers

Based on “Last Thursdays” talk on  December 2011.

Mr. Radhesh Pant, CEO of the recently established Investment Board in Nepal , believes that life is all about change. He sees much opportunity in Nepal from hydro-power, to tourism, agriculture and so much more. He believes that if used to its fullest potential, anything could turn into gold in Nepal. But the problem he sees is that we have not been able to capitalize on our potential and hence we are more focused on short-term gains like international aid, land buying and selling and other small areas. He adds that we have not been able to see the long-term vision which would eventually benefit the economy of Nepal. Because of this, he decided to join the Investment Board started by the Government of Nepal. Here’s a summary of his talk followed by questions and answers.

Investment Board – Its Role and Future

Investment Board is a Nepal government established board with the aim to create investor friendly environment for both domestic and foreign investors. To do this, it plans to offer one-window

Live your way

I have learned…… (set of inspirational messages)

[ I copied this Paulo Coelho’s blog on the Internet, I did not write it, he says he didn’t either, but I think is worth putting here. Whoever wrote this, a hug, a smile and a thank you 🙂 ]Live your way

  • I’ve learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them;
  • I’ve learned that no matter how much I care, some people just don’t care back;
  • I’ve learned that it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.
  • I’ve learned that you can get by on charm, for about fifteen minutes. After that, you’d better know something;
  • I’ve learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.
  • I’ve learned that no matter how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take it’s place.
  • I’ve learned that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you’re downhill are the ones to help

How to build entrepreneurship in Nepal

This is part of  a continuing series of articles that will help towards my idea of jump-starting entrepreneurship in Nepal. (for those who don’t know what the word ‘start-up’ means, a start-up is a company with a limited operating history).

How to build an entrepreneurial culture in Nepal?
One part of the puzzle is to build a healthy eco-system for Start-ups in Nepal.

I have seen business incubators opened by the government, helped by donor agencies or international bilateral agencies. I realize that they have never understood what a startup does. All that money is going down the drain…
Why? because they simply didn’t know what entrepreneurs in Nepal now want! They never asked the questions,

  • What’s a startup? scalable startup?
  • Who’s an entrepreneur?
  • How are platforms created?
  • What kind of eco-system needs to be built?
  • What motivates them?
  • What’s the difference between governmental versus private investment?

Not understanding and agreeing what “Entrepreneur” and “Startup” mean can halt an entire country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

What kind of start-ups are there?

Below is an excerpt taken from Steve Blank’s excellent article on why Government’s don’t get Start-ups. I recommend reading it.

Steve writes,
